Bumpies & Smoothies

So in case you don’t follow me on any of my other social channels and missed my super big life update post. I am pregnant with a baby girl who is due June 2019!

As you are reading this I am 25 weeks, however I thought and I really hoped that I’d do better documenting every part of this pregnancy. If not every single moment than at least my meals and workout plan. I mean, the thought of being pregnant for nine months seemed like a never ending period of time five months ago! Alright, at least I didn’t quite disappoint with the bump-related photos on Instagram, but I haven’t sat down to write down my thoughts regarding my pregnancy on my blog as much as I would have wanted. As I’m sitting here writing this, enjoying my smoothie bowl, it feels like the perfect moment to share my go-to pregnancy smoothie recipe as well as some pregnancy thoughts.


The thought that always scared me was that I wouldn’t be able to control myself once I got pregnant.That I would crave each and every food that exists on the planet, and that I would gain a lot of weight. Well, I am really happy to say that I’ve never been able to have such a control of everything I put in my mouth like I have now, constantly in my mind there are thoughts about this baby girl that make me be as healthy, positive, and active as possible.


Putting it simply like this, that choosing healthy, nutritious foods will help ensure the health of me and my little girl. Plus, I believe it will also make it a lot easier to lose the post-pregnancy weight.

Now first, let me tell you what I’ve learned: Cravings are definitely not the Hollywood representation of huge buckets of ice cream stuffed with pickles or some other weird combination every night at 4am. So far, my cravings have been more of a small obsession, wanting to eat random food products which would completely get my thoughts obsessed about that particular food until it would be in my stomach. Still, they were all very normal and healthy food items.  In the first 8 weeks, it was oranges and greek yogurt. Since then and until today I just love waking up to a warm oat meal with fruits and nuts, or a bowl of fresh smoothie (btw, these are the usual meals I had even before pregnancy) so I really love the fact that I didn’t start craving other things. I love eating homemade food, like lentils, beans, meat, salmon, spinach, baked potatoes, cooked rice, and a lot of other fresh salad and vegetables. In the beginning the coffee smell was making me sick and nauseous, but now I stick to the 200 ml recommended coffee dose per day.


As far as pregnancy symptoms, I just had a minor sick feeling for 10 days. Other than that I can’t really talk much about symptoms, as yet again I barely haven’t had any at all.  Sometimes I joke about not understanding my pregnancy at all. No hormonal changes. No consistent cravings. No late night bathroom trips. The fact that I have not experienced any of these symptoms makes me happy and I guess a bit lucky. I’ve definitely had a good & healthy pregnancy so far.

I am currently obsessed with the thoughts of what we need for the nursery room, and that relaxes me and makes me happy.

My bump is really starting to get big, which makes my body feel totally different, and I love it.

We do have a favorite name picked out right now that we refer to our baby girl as while she’s in the womb, but we will keep that a secret, in case we change our minds:)

The first few months I was enjoying being with my family and my mum made everything about my pregnancy so much easier. I arrived in Denmark few weeks ago, and I love the fact that we are able to be expecting this little girl in Denmark because it’s so calm in the city where we live, I love the nature and the surroundings. I love the food varieties, and the medical care they offer.  I’m also very happy that we got to feel her moving inside my womb for the first time. At first it felt like little bubbles. Now it’s full on kicks, which I still feel is pretty weird but its such a surreal feeling.


So that’s my update on my pregnancy. Now, let’s talk about the best pregnancy craving. Life is definitely good when one of your pregnancy cravings is a smoothie bowl. I make this smoothie almost every morning, and I enjoy it.

This smoothie is made with raw beets, fresh or frozen strawberries and blueberries, a frozen banana and almond milk (or plant-milk of choice), spinach or kale (optional). If you don’t have a high-powered blender, I recommend grating the beet before blending because it takes a bit of power to cut through it. If you’re looking to start adding vegetables into your smoothies but aren’t ready to dive head first into green smoothie territory, then this is a great one to try adding some kale or spinach. It’s heavy on the fruit so the flavor of the beet gets covered in between the sweetness of the berries and banana.


  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 small beet, washed, peeled, and cut.
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • handful of spinach or kale (optional)


Add all ingredients to a blender, and blend for 2-3 minutes or until smooth. This one can be a bit tricky to get moving in your blender, especially if you’re using all frozen fruit. If you have a “pulse mode” on your blender, I recommend using that to get it started. Then, blend consistently until smooth.
